Callum Innes has been selected as the centre point of the group exhibition ‘Absent Presence’ at the Manchester Art Gallery. Focusing on Innes’ painting ‘Exposed Painting Green Lake’ (2012), which was recently acquired by the museum, the show investigates how Innes drew tonal inspiration from ‘Sir Thomas Aston at the Deathbed of His Wife’ (1635) by John Souch. The exhibition thus invites viewers to draw connections between works from different periods and formal traditions.
