Charwei Tsai and Lee Kit have been selected to exhibit in “Cross-Strait Relations” held at Parsons The New School for Design, New York. An examination of the ideas and experiences facing life in “China” across many borders, the exhibition addresses the diaspora between Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. A group exhibition, each artist was selected for their embodiment of an itinerant sensibility; how they cross the borders from one Chinese region to another and beyond, and how their works respond in direct or oblique ways to the locations they make their artistic base. As commerce has opened between these three regions, so has mobility, a factor Charwei Tsai amongst other artists have readily embraced. Through works in video, photography, installation, sound and performance, the exhibition thereby explores the pluralism of an evolving Chinese identity and addresses how a new light has been cast on the historical and political vicissitudes embedded in the bilaterally laden phrase “Cross-Strait Relations.” Artists in the exhibition, curated by Arthur Ou, include Chen Chieh-Jen, Heman Chong, Cao Fei, Lee Kit, Michael Lin, Charwei Tsai, Hong-Kai Wang, Ming Wong, Jun Yang, and Hu Yun.
