Fabien Mérelle’s monumental sculptures, ‘Pentateuque’ and ‘To the end of the world’ stand tall at Le Havre as part of ‘A Summer in Le Havre 2018’. ‘Pentateuque’, a life-size sculpture, constructed from a small drawing created in 2010, represents a man carrying the weight of an elephant on his back which is symbolic of bending under the weight of tradition and history. In contrast, represented in ‘To the end of the world’ is the same man, carrying his daughter on his shoulders, looking beyond and towards the future.
