Los Carpinteros are participating in the group exhibition ‘Carribean: Crossroads of the World’ at the Pérez Art Museum Miami, Florida that explores the history and visual culture of the Caribbean from the Haitian Revolution (1891-1804) to the present. In particular, the show will feature the artistic duo’s film work Congo Irreversible (2012), which was staged as a performance for the XI Havana Biennale. Organised and directed by Los Carpinteros, the film shows how they inverted a traditional comparsa – the conga band and dancers that traditionally perform at Latin American carnival celebrations – through reversing all of the typical elements of the performance.
