The image in Ko Sin Tung’s work “Gateway to ________” (2014) originates from a realtor’s advertisement. The harbour view is the selling point of the property, hence, a composition was created by the realtor in an extremely exaggerated manner in which one can witness the harbour view at night with the stars reflecting in the water. The artist reversed this image upside down and transformed it into a puzzle. People usually hang beautiful landscape pictures on the walls at home to reflect the ideal lifestyle they aspire to achieve, and the exaggerated advertisement paves a way for this vision.
