Sun Xun is holding a solo exhibition, ‘Yesterday is Tomorrow’, at the Hayward Gallery Project Space. This show marks Sun Xun’s first solo show in a London public gallery as well as a UK public institution. On display will be a number of the artist’s mesmerising black-and-white and colour animation films that are brimming with tensions, conflicts and dark political histories. Amongst the films will be 21 KE [21 Grams] (2010), which is the first Chinese animation film to ever be shown at the Venice Film Festival. Sun Xun’s film work blurs the lines between art and animation and is created by juxtaposing traditional materials, such as ink and charcoal drawings, with contemporary digital strategy.
