Edouard Malingue Gallery Hong Kong is pleased to announce Tromarama’s participation in the 4th Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art, taking place in the Sverdlovsk region of Russia. Engaging with the theme ‘New Literacy’, the biennial anticipates the future changes to society and culture brought about by new technologies and modes of production.
Tromarama, a collective based in Banding, Indonesia, combine technology and humour to create engaging works which fuse the real-life and the virtual, resulting in playful illusions. On view in the biennial’s Main Project space will be ‘Quandary’ (2016), a two channel video installation. By exploring the deepening relationship between individuals and their screens, ‘Quandary’ articulates how we perceive reality in a continually digitalised world, through the manipulation of natural phenomena such as gravity.
