Thrilled to share Tromarama’s latest group show, ‘Cinemara: Art and the Moving Image in Southeast Asia’, an exhibition that brings together 10 artists and collectives from across Southeast Asia that present their work through moving images. Featured here is Tromarama’s stop-motion animation, ‘Zsa Zsa Zsu’ (2007).

‘Zsa Zsa Zsu’ is a music video produced for the Bandung-based music band, Rock N’ Roll Mafia (RNRM). The title of the song is a phrase used to describe the magnetism experienced when encountered by a love interest, and narrates the anticipation and yearning for love and passion. The animation work emphasises this attraction by depicting members of RNRM performing the song using the stop-motion animation technique. Additionally, incorporated were unpredictable objects such as buttons and beads in order to form the images in ‘Zsa Zsa Zsu’.
