Edouard Malingue Gallery is thrilled to announce Wong Ping and Samson Young’s selection for the third edition of The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation Chinese Art Initiative at the Guggenheim Museum, New York. The Art Initiative is a curatorial residency supported by the Guggenheim. Wong Ping, and Samson Young are two of the five artists commissioned to produce site-specific projects that generate pivotal observations on social conditions in a technologically mediated reality.
The commissions will be featured in the group exhibition ‘One Hand Clapping’. The artists in ‘One Hand Clapping’ explore our changing relationship with the future. Produced in both new and traditional mediums—from virtual reality technology to oil on canvas—their commissioned works challenge visions of a global, homogeneous, and technocratic future. Wong Ping creates a multimedia installation centred on a colourful, racy animated tale that explores the tension between an aging population and the relentless pace of a digital economy. On the other hand, Samson Young reflects on our obsession with ritual and authenticity through a sonic and sculptural environment of imaginary musical instruments and their digitally engineered sounds.
